Man VPN technology has really come a long way over the years. Not a whole lot has changed I don't think, really. But I remember back in the day I hated using VPN so much. Like, SO so much. I think, in hindsight, the biggest issue was that my experience back then with VPN was in "big enterprise", working for these giant IT conglomerates whose corporate IT departments would setup their VPN servers with scraped together hardware and then stuff it in some closet somewhere, so the hardware was the big limitation. Never mattered what your internet connection was like, when your connection was running through a server that had 4GB of RAM and comparable hardware, it was always gonna suck.

Since then, I've worked in orgs where they've setup VPNs with reasonable hardware specs, and the experience is much, much better, and not even close to the biggest issue.

Ironic that the biggest companies with the most money were the ones that made the experience suck the most. Greedy bastards.
