As a software developer, I feel like my relationship with AI is, as some might call personal relationships ... complicated.
So many people keep trying to say that AI is going to replace me, that I won't be needed for doing what I do for much longer, etc, etc. At the moment I'm not terribly worried about that, as I don't really believe that to be true. While AI is pretty amazing in what its capable of, that can actually work in multiple different directions, both good, bad and usually somewhere in between.
But the thing is, the only thing I see everyone talking about is how great AI is at writing code. What I feel like they're missing is that being a software developer has always been about WAY more than just writing code. It's about all kinds of things that an AI can't necessarily do on it's own without human intervention, OR potentially giving the AI more permission to do things than anyone is really comfortable with.
I definitely feel like my role is evolving, no doubt. AI is helping in big ways, and it's momentum is growing fast. But I'm not yet terribly concerned about losing my job. The future is going to be interesting, no doubt.
