Thinking out loud ...

On parenting. One of the things I feel like I've learned over too much time (meaning, it has taken me too long to learn this) is that I feel like too often I've taken the perspective of giving my kids a choice on things.

Don't get me wrong, I think kids should have a say in things, their voice deserves to be heard. But at the same time, I think when you give kids choice about whether or not they want to do something, especially when its in regard to something they know little-to-nothing about, they will too often make the wrong choice, and ultimately end up missing out on experiencing something they might have actually loved.

I think as parents, sometimes we owe it to our kids, and its part of our jobs as parents, to make a decision, and not give them a choice in it. "C'mon, we're gonna go do this thing." Just, drag them along and let them experience it. I've too often not recognized when this has worked really well, and they've enjoyed it, and not let that impact future decisions.
