Good Friday @ Faith Promise
Luke 22
Jesus went and prayed on a mountain. 😏 (nice observation babe)
Jesus said to his disciples, before he went to pray himself, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” 🤔 I feel like this is a curious thing for him to have said. I wonder why it was he said this to them. Seems worth digging into a bit.
“Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
I fully understand and embrace the gravity of the event we’re focusing on here at this service, but man it sure has a touchy feely vibe to it. Not really my style. 😕
- Nevertheless, here I am Lord. Hear my praise and gratitude, mercifully accept it from me. Thank you so much for your eternal sacrifice. 🔥🙏🏼
A reading from various passages in Matthew 26, Matthew’s account of that night.
Peter was faced with having to count the cost of being affiliated with Jesus, proclaiming his allegiance to him.
- This isn’t something that we’re often faced with here in America where we have the freedom to worship as we are pleased to. There is very little cost. We need to find ways to make that sacrifice real in our lives in different ways. What sacrifices do I make??
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I'm found, was blind but now I see. Man I love that song.
John 19 - the crucifixion
vs 30: “Tetelestai” (τετέλεσται) - "it is finished"
Thank you Jesus
- Joseph of Arimathea - who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews - this is kind of fascinating to me. How is this any different than Peter and his public denial of Jesus? 🤔
