Acts 21-22 and Proverbs 24

Paul returned to Jerusalem, despite clear evidence from the Holy Spirit that he would face persecution and beatings from the Jews when he got there. He pressed on anyway. Would I? Willfully walking into a situation knowing I would face physical harm … not sure I’d be OK with that. That’s wild.

Proverbs is wild man. I love reading the Proverbs, but sometimes they feel so random. Often times there are verses in there that feel like they’re just jammed in there at random, and not part of any surrounding, coherent thoughts.

My son, eat honey, for it is good, and the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste.

— Proverbs 24:13.

I guess we get nutrition advice from the Proverbs now! 😆 Maybe I should be eating more honey, heh.

MacArthur has a great note on this, and pointed out a connection to vs 14 that I had previously missed.

This is not a command to eat honey, but an analogy to seek the sweetness of wisdom’s rewards.

    — John MacArthur

    vs 14 reads:

Know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you find it there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off.

    — Proverbs 24:14

This is much clearer and makes more sense. Though I’d imagine it couldn’t hurt to eat more honey. 😏
